The Museum was the former Maitland School and residence.  It was build in 1877.
The first inhabitants in the Maitland area ere the Narungga people and their history is well documented here.  The Rogers’ family settled in 1851 – a model of their “Ynoo’ homestead is in the museum grounds.  In 1872 the area was opened up for agricultural selection, the town was surveyed and the settlers moved in.  The stories of these pioneers are told as you wander through the Museum.
Plan a visit soon – you will be surprised by the extend of the displays.
